Nile Rodgers denies New York Daft Punk concert

Nile Rodgers has said that Daft Punk will not be playing his charity concert next month in New York.

The Chic man took to Facebook to write: "To be totally clear, Daft Punk is not playing at my charity event."

Rodgers recently announced plans for a one-day music festival in New York. Writing at NileRodgers.com, he said that he will be hosting the first Nile Rodgers Dance Party on August 19 at the Martha Clara Vineyards in Riverhead, New York.

When discussing the surprise line-up for the event, he wrote that the concert takes place around the same time as the release of the next Daft Punk single. "There's going to be me, my band Chic, and some of the hottest acts and surprises on the planet that day... which happens to be around the time the next Daft Punk single drops (I'm just saying)."

Nile Rodgers also recently revealed that Daft Punk will help him finish recording songs he made with Chic and had previously thought were lost. The veteran songwriter and producer, who most recently has topped the charts alongside Daft Punk with 'Get Lucky', said that he has found a number of old Chic songs and that he is hoping to finish work on them before releasing them to the public.

Speaking to DJAZZtv, Rodgers confirmed that Daft Punk are keen to help him finish the songs. "Daft Punk wants to do at least one of them with me, so that should be very cool. Because they respect the music, they understand."

Daft Punk and Nile Rodgers Will Collaborate Again

'Random Access Memories' partners to pair again on unreleased Chic material

Nile Rodgers will be collaborating with Daft Punk again to complete previously unreleased Chic and solo material, he has revealed. Rodgers, the Chic guitarist and dance music pioneer, loaned his talents to Daft Punk on their Random Access Memories hit "Get Lucky," which he helped write and record.

Rodgers told DJAZZtv that he recently discovered unreleased masters in the Warner Music tape library that include personal solo tracks, film scores and Chic material, along with "Chic tracks that were not designed for any project except for the guys working with me writing songs," he explained. The guitarist/producer says that he plans to finish and release some of the tracks and that Daft Punk will be part of the process.

"Daft Punk wants to do at least one of them with me, so that should be very cool," Rodgers said. "Because they respect the music. They understand."

Daft Punk Get Lucky With Their Own Condoms

It was only a matter of time before someone seized the opportunity to use Daft Punk's ubiquitous "Get Lucky" in a marketing campaign for a sex-related product. According to NME, Durex has apparently teamed up with Daft Punk to make a "Get Lucky" brand of condoms, imprinted with the Daft Punk logo and that now-famous image of Daft Punk, Pharrell, and Nile Rodgers in front of a blazing sun.

It's unclear if the condoms will be available to the general public, but Durex has apparently been sending promotional packages to DJs. Diplo, for instance, posted the above photo on Instagram last night, captioned with: "Thank god I had those daft punk condoms last night".

Nile Rodgers says he's interested in touring with Daft Punk

Nile Rodgers has revealed he is interested in touring with Daft Punk.

The Chic legend co-wrote and plays on the French duo's massive hit 'Get Lucky' as well as two other tracks from their Number One album 'Random Access Memories': 'Give Life Back To Music' and 'Lose Yourself To Dance'.

He performed with Chic at Glastonbury Festival on Friday (June 28) but quashed hopes that Daft Punk might be playing a secret set during the three-day bash at Worthy Farm in Somerset.

However, he told the Daily Star on Saturday (June 29): "I'd love to come back. What I did with Daft Punk was so special I refuse to do it live without them. If they want to plan something I would seriously listen. Whether that's a tour or taking shows to the next level they can call me."

Earlier this month (June), Rodgers revealed he was asked an unusual question by Madonna when he was producing her 1984 album 'Like A Virgin'. "I was standing at an elevator when she goes, 'Why don't you want to fuck me?'", Rodgers recalled, speaking to The Sun.

"I was like, 'What did you just say to me?' She was wondering why I had not propositioned her. She couldn't understand that. It was like, 'Everybody wants me'."

Wilco Cover Daft Punk's 'Get Lucky' at Solid Sound Festival

Would you like to see Wilco's Jeff Tweedy take on the vocal duties Pharrell Williams handles on Daft Punk's "Get Lucky"? Tweedy did just that on Friday night, as Wilco covered Daft Punk's song to what appeared to be an enthusiastic reception. Wilco played the tune as part of its set at its own Solid Sound Festival at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art.

Other covers played by the Chicago rock band during the evening included Velvet Underground's "Who Loves the Sun," Pavement's "Cut Your Hair," Cheap Trick's "Surrender," and many others, according to Gothamist's video compilation.

Judging by the amateur video above posted to YouTube, plenty of concertgoers were singing along to the Wilco version of the "Random Access Memories" track.

Daft Punk x Red Bull Random #RedBull Memories

Daft Punk continues to make its presence known after the release of its long awaited Random Access Memories album. Red Bull took full advantage and tapped the creative source to help celebrate the closing of the Red Bull Music Academy in New York City.

The energy drink company used the group’s album art cover as inspiration for their racing team’s helmet design. The design is very similar to the diptych design like the one used on the album. This design sparked a lot of speculation as to what Red Bull’s future plans are with the band. Since Red Bull does co-own the Infiniti-Red Bull Racing F-1 team and Daft Punk was recently spotted with Lotus F1 Racing Team last week at Monaco’s Grand Prix, there’s a lot to try and figure out. Check out he helmet design below and imagine that with a matching car and driving suit. Pretty dope!

Official: Daft Punk's 'Random' Debuts at No. 1 on Billboard 200 With 339,000

It's official: Daft Punk's new album "Random Access Memories" debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, selling 339,000 copies in its first week, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

"Random Access Memories," released on May 21, gives the veteran electronic/dance duo its best sales week ever and first No. 1. The set also notches the second-largest sales week of the year overall. Only the debut of Justin Timberlake's "The 20/20 Experience" logged a larger frame so far in 2013, when it began with 968,000 in March.

The full top 10 of the new Billboard 200 will be revealed on Wednesday, May 29.

With 339,000 sold, "Random Access Memories" also starts with a more robust sales figure than expected. Industry forecasters had projected a first-week launch of around 300,000 -- with a chance at hitting 325,000 if the set performed strongly through its first week.

"Random Access Memories" is the act's fourth studio effort and second top 10 set on the Billboard 200. They had previously gone as high as No. 4 with its soundtrack to "TRON: Legacy" in January of 2011. Their highest-charting studio album had been 2001's "Discovery," which peaked at No. 44.

Daft Punk's last studio set, 2005's "Human After All," debuted and peaked at No. 98.
Notably, in one week, "Random Access Memories" has sold more than twice what the total sales are for "Human After All." The latter has sold just 125,000 to date. Comparably, Daft Punk's best selling album is "Discovery," with 796,000.

Further, "Random Access Memories" is the first dance/electronic album to hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in more than a year. The last dance/electronic No. 1 was Madonna's "MDNA" -- it debuted atop the April 14, 2012 chart.

"Random Access Memories" is led by the single "Get Lucky," featuring Pharrell Williams. The song earned Daft Punk its first top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, so far peaking at No. 10 last week. The song is also the duo's biggest airplay hit ever, as it climbed 46-29 on the Radio Songs chart last week.
